The importance of rest and recovery

Posted on September 13, 2016October 3, 2017 by Mel Downs

I always thought that training at 100% all the time meant better results, but that’s not always the case. Having always been a ‘go hard or go home’ individual, slowing down and resting was never something I liked to do.

This is a little off the topic of Muaythai, but the whanau from Tsunami Southern Tribes Tūwharetoa Jujitsu in Tūrangi are hosting a pretty cool BJJ seminar featuring some high level practitioners from California. One of them is Valerie Worthington who will be hosting an all female seminar which I think is awesome! If you're interested details are on the pics ❤ #bjj #martialarts #bjjnewzealand #bjjaotearoa
Many moons ago 🌚 when I was a youth filled with pent up anger and too many emotions (as many young people are) I had no outlet for what was building up inside of me. I'm so glad I found Muaythai 🥊🥊 Not only did it help get me in shape ✔ give me confidence ✔ put me on a healthy path for life ✔ and gave me goals to work towards✔ it also created a healthy and constructive outlet through which I can exert all my frustrations and energy. I think I can honestly say it saved me, and I'm sure it has done the same for others. Muaythai. Saving people since ages ago. #muaythaiislife #lovemysport #lovemuaythai #lovefighting #positivevibes

It's only been two weeks and I'm already itching to get back in there, obsessing over what I want to improve on, taking notes, watching fight videos on YouTube 😣😣😣 I think something's wrong with me....someone help! 😂🤣🥊🥊🥊 Photo credit: Lioness Photography #fighter #notimeforxmas #muaythaiislife #ijustwanttobegood #femalefighter
Last track session done for the year 🏃‍♀️ as you can see I am too black to be seen by my camera...And my selfie skills are such that you can see my phone's reflection in my glasses 😒 #trainingneverstops #workoffthexmasweight #divadowns #teamdownsgym
It's been a pretty busy year, and I am so grateful (and spoiled) to have had five fights in 2018! 🥊🥊 I'm lucky if I get one or two a year. So this is a tribute not only to what's been achieved, but to my opponents who fought well, gave me everything in the ring, and some of who also stepped up despite the experience gap 👊👊 With our eyes on the international landscape for next year, I'm excited for what 2019 will bring. Have a safe and happy holidays everyone! 🎄🎄 Photo credits: Rawphotography.Mx and Lioness Photography (you guys are awesome 😉) #muaythaiislife #femalefighter #teamdownsgym #divadowns #TDG017
